It was an exciting night at the fieldhouse as the members of the Democratic Party of the 49th Ward heard from the candidates and made its decisions about which ones will be supported in the March 20 primary election.  Races up and down the ballot were decided as the members asked questions and listened intently to what each of the candidates had to say for themselves.  There were some large margins of victory and some that were pretty close as you will see in the results that follow.  With good turnout, by the candidates, the members of the party, and the community the candidates were thouroghly screened and tested.

Candidates receiving 66.7% or more are endorsed.  Races in which no candidate received 66.7% of the vote will be refered to the Board of the Democratic Party for additional consideration and an endorsement may be made.

Democratic candidates who are unopposed are automatically endorsed unless an action is taken to not endorse them by the Board.  The following unopposed candidates are endorsed by the Democratic Party of the 49th Ward, Barack Obama/Joe Biden for President/Vice-President, Heather Steans for State Senator-7th District, Ira Silverstein for State Senator-8th District (West of Ridge), Lou Lang for State Representative (West of Ridge), Karen Yarbrough for Recorder of Deeds, and Michael Cabonargi for Board of Review-2nd District.  Not endorsed is Anita Alvarez for State's Attorney.
